Hello, BOOKDRAGONS and welcome back to my little corner of the bookish universe. I hope you’re having a good day and you’re up for another book review. This year, I’ve been fortunate enough to get a lot of new releases and the one that I’m going to talk about today is The Hazel Wood (book 1) by Melissa Albert.
Althea Prosperine wrote a book with very dark fairy tales years ago, which brought her some fame. She lived in a secluded mention called “The Hazel Wood” with her only daughter Ella. That was then. Now, there are only Alice and her mother Ella. Alice has never met her grandmother. She and Ella live on the road, constantly moving from place to place because bad luck seems to follow them wherever they go. Alice knows that her grandmother wrote some weird and twisted tales but Ella never let her read them or even talk about Althea. When one day they get a letter telling them Althea is dead, Ella says that they can finally have normal lives and settle down. A couple of months later she goes missing. Alice is ready to do whatever it takes to get her back even if that means going into “The Hazel Wood”, something her mother told her never to do.
The beginning of the story was very promising but I don’t think the rest delivered. I’m going to start with the minuses and end with the plusses.
+ The dark fairy tales, the ones we get to hear, were exactly what I was expecting.
+ The first couple of chapters were very intriguing and promising.
Not satisfying at all. The story was wrapped up but everything felt very depressing.
I will not continue with these series.
HOW MANY DRAGONS?

No surprise there. Overall, I think I may have had very different expectations that were not met and that is why I didn’t enjoy the book. However, that is my opinion and you can have a different one. That’s the fun of it all. I want to know what you think. Come on, people, let’s use that comment section!
Don’t forget to check out my video on the subject and with that, I will see you next week! Keep on reading!
